American internet pioneer. Best known as one of “the fathers of the Internet” for his TCT/IP development. He worked at IBM, Stanford, the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), MCI, The Corporation for National Research Initiatives, The Internet Society (ISOC), and Google. Awards include National Medal of Technology (1997), the Maconi Prize (1998), the Turing Award (2004), the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2005), the Japan Prize (2008), the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering (2013), and was elected as Foreign Member of the Royal Society (ForMemRS)(2016). He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a UN Commissioner for the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Interplanetary Internet.
