American theater director. She served as the Artistic Director for Arena stage in Washington, D.C. for 25 years. Under her leadership, Arena Stage expanded into the Mead Center for American Theater, a three-stage complex that became the second-largest performing arts facility in Washington, D.C. Onstage, she championed more than 200 plays by American voices and emerging artists, while helping to originate 150 works through workshops. Awards include the Governor’s Award for the Arts from the Alaska (1998), Washington, D.C., a Tony Award nomination (2014) Hall of Fame Society (2018), and Director of Distinction by The Academy of Arts, Cairo, Egypt (2019).
