The Cosmos Club is proud to present the 55th Cosmos Club Award to David M. Rubenstein who has distinguished himself as one of the most generous and grateful Americans of his generation. Rising from modest origins, he has defined the essence of patriotic philanthropy, giving of his riches and his energy to his country, by helping to pre- serve monuments, artifacts and other treasures of American history, so that coming generations may share in America’s cultural heritage. His life demonstrates what de Tocqueville first saw, that philanthropy itself is a vital part of our national tradition.
