The Cosmos Club is proud to present the 54th Cosmos Club Award to Lonnie G. Bunch III in recognition of his enduring contributions as a historian, curator, museum administrator and advocate for a deeper understanding of the African American experience in the evolution of the American identity. By confronting America with its past, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which he founded and built, will enlarge the comprehension of all Americans, and lead them to realize what their nation once was, so that it can become the nation described in its stated ideals.
