In his long and distinguished service as senior government statistician, teacher and management consultant, W. Edwards Deming has made significant research contributions in mathematical statistics and successfully applied the results of such research to practical problems in the statistical adjustment of data, population sampling, quality control and management.
His work has improved our government’s statistics, the teaching of statistical quality control, and the management of both the public and the private sectors. In Japan, he demonstrated how industrial quality control management can significantly improve global competitiveness. Currently he contributes to maintaining our country’s preeminence in the international marketplace by actively consulting, lecturing and writing.
In recognition of his outstanding achievements in statistics, in quality control and in management, the Cosmos Club with great affection and pride bestows the 1992 Cosmos Club Award on one of its own, W. Edwards Deming.
