American evolutionary biologist and ornithologist. Professor at Yale University head curator for the University’s Peabody Museum of Natural History. His 2017 book was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction (2018) and New York Times Ten Best Books (2017). Awards include a Fullbright Scholar in Brazil (2001), the Gugenheim Fellowship (2007), the MacArthur Fellowship (2009), and the Lewis Thomas Prize (2021).
